UGC's directive to varsities

The University Grants Commission has asked all universities under its ambit to make sure of compliance of the thirteen year old Biological Diversity Act in whatever research initiatives they take up and other crucial educational processes in order to spread protection and awareness of biodiversity in the country.

This move comes within one year of UGC banning the dissections of animals on the university and college campuses.

According to the instructions, all the universities in India under its ambit including Allahabad University, will from now on have to declare the biodiversity policy on their website.
