Pourudu Tollywood Movie Review

The do or die effort to restructure Sumanth's film career has again got a weak response. 'Pourudu' deals with the life of Ajay ( Sumanth), a gold medalist and first in studies, he clears his Civils examination and is on his way to appear for the final interview. His father Pandu (Suman) is the key henchman for Bhai (Nazir) and does not hesitate to go to any extremes on bhai's orders a'la 'Dalapathi' and he considers Bhai to be his god.. They have their closest rival in Kasi (Kota) and his son Suri and Pandu keeps breaking down their activities. Though both father and son have ideology differences, they dote on each other and are deeply attached. In a chance incident, Ajay meets Samyukta ( Kajal) and eventually both of them fall in love. As fate would have it, Ajay gets into a brawl due to Pandu and ends up in jail on his interview day. This kind of breaks Ajay's heart who thinks that his father would never understand the situation and he moves away from Pandu though reluctantly. Both father and son miss each other, soon Pandu realizes that Bhai is not actually a nice person and in fact he is being used for his misdeeds. He has a showdown with Bhai, goes and confesses his sins to the honest police inspector Hussain (Srinivas Reddy) who is close on his tails. Pandu is killed by Kasi and gang which changes the peace loving Ajay completely and he sets out on a termination mission to clean up the whole mess. Is he successful in his vengeance and what happens to his dreams of becoming an IAS officer forms the rest of the story.

Pourudu Telugu Cinema Review

Director Raj Adithya's attempts to project Sumanth in a reformer image would have gone well provided his script had the punch and the dialogues had that intensity. His narration did not have the grip on the story and it looked like he was trying to present different things at a random sequence. Added to that was some poor editing and a very stale choice of costumes for Sumanth. Camera was just about okay and the location for the songs was picturesque. Chakri has brought in some decent background score and one or two tracks of his are catchy. Sumanth as the central protagonist was a mixed package, at some points his dialogue delivery and expressions were apt and some places, his voice lacked the required emotion. He still needs to work on his acting and facial expressions and toughen his dialogue delivery.  The credit of the movie is Kajal who is bubbly, though her role did not have much to offer, her presence and innocent eyes did some magic. Suman was stiff but still had a good presence and has not lost his charm, Kota was versatile, Nazir looked worn out and lacked the aura of a don.  The comedy track involving Ali, Brahmanandam, MS, Dharmavarapu managed few laughs.

Pourudu Filem Review

A good subject if handled well could have done much better at the box office. At any point, the director failed to connect to the audience and his projection of the central protagonist and other characters has been weak. Even the love track between the hero and heroine was not very convincing. While the first half was mixed with a fight sequence, some romantic interludes and comedy, the second half was a bit better as things take a serious turn and especially the father- son angle was shown well. Sumanth needs to go for more macho looks if he wants to take up action roles, Kajal has shown a lot of potential, with some work on her expressions, she can join the top league. The comedy track could have been much better as the comedian cast was very experienced. The music director created a novelty by creating a remix of the hit song from 'Ghajini' though it was for few seconds. All in all, the movie does not have the material to survive.

Bharatstudent verdict: A tolerable treat, can go if you have nothing better to do.
