Manjadikuru Malluwood Movie Review

Story: A well knit tale, the story begins with Vicky (prithvi) who comes home from the gulf at the age of ten to attend the funeral of his grandfather. He accompanies his parents (sagar shiyas, urvashi) who are quite pompous. The event sees the coming of many relatives from different parts and the entire rituals takes sixteen days. Vicky feels strange at the start but eventually gets connected out of his curiosity. The story takes a turn when the relatives begin to talk about the dividing of the property. As for Vicky, he joins hands with his cousins to ensure that their housemaid Roja (vyjayanthi) goes to Sivakasi, her hometown. What happens after this forms the rest of the story.

Manjadikuru Malayalam Cinema Review

Presentation: The director has come up with an nostalgic concept and while the presentation was natural, the narrative was different. The dialogues were neat, the script was reasonable and the screenplay was adequate. Background score was suitable and the songs were hummable. Cinematography was excellent and editing could have been better in the second half. Costumes were usual. The art department was native. Prithviraj’s voice was deep, Jagathy was good, Murali, Praveena, Rahman, Bindu Panicker did their bit as required. Sindhu Menon was sensuous. Vyjayanthy was good. The others didn’t have much scope.

Conclusion: Given the fact that this has been directed by a lady, the Mollywood circuit should be happy that she has come with some fine talent and storytelling skills. While the first half goes about with an entertaining flavor, the second half gets a bit dramatic. If only the second half was trimmed by about fifteen minutes, the impact of the film would have been strong. However, there is a good energy in the movie. At the box office, this could be an average grosser with some profits.
