Shanghai Bollywood Movie Review

Story: A gripping tale, the story begins with Dr Ahmadi (prosenjit) a political activist who meets with an accident at a time when the elections are on. One of his friends and followers Shalini (kalki) thinks it is a murder. On the other hand, there is a porn moviemaker Jogi Parmar (emraan) who loves to live cheap given the reailty he has seen.  He claims to have evidence that can bring the government down. And then there is Krishnan (abhay deol) a man chosen by the government and brought in to do the damage control. The paths of these individuals cross each other and what happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Shanghai Hindi Cinema Review

Presentation: The director has come up with a gripping storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was engaging. The dialogues were hard hitting, the script was strong and the screenplay was effective. Background score was good but the songs failed to create an impact. Cinematography was top notch. Editing was crisp but was required during few sequences. Costumes were natural while the art department was suiting the moods of the scenes. Emraan Hashmi comes up with a totally different persona and scores well, Abhay Deol was excellent, Kalki did her bit as required, Farooque Sheikh was fabulous, Prosenjit was powerful, Supriya Pathak made her presence felt, Anant Jog is awesome. The others added value to the film.

Conclusion: Making a political thriller is always a challenge as there must be something for the audience to connect in terms of entertainment quotient. But this film is more on the lines of reality and some sequences really make the blood boil. While the first half goes about with the layering of the plot, the second half deals with the various twists and turns and how three unusual individuals create a major impact. Overall, this is a film which is meant for the thinking audience and those who associate with social subjects. At the box office, this has every potential to become a profit grosser.
